What is burnout?

Burnout is a common phenomenon characterized by

  • Emotional exhaustion

  • Numbness and/or detachment

  • A sense of hopelessness, helplessness, and overwhelm

It’s not just being tired - it’s being tired, overwhelmed and living with a prolonged sense of dread about what you have yet to accomplish and disbelief that it will be meaningful to accomplish.

It’s not just stress but chronic stress, without relief. When you try to push through burnout, you find yourself more and more depleted. You might stop caring about things that you used to, and you might find it harder to be kind and patient with the people that you love.

Burnout and compassion fatigue are especially common in the helping professions, such as therapists, teachers, nurses, and other healers and helpers.

Are you tired of feeling burnt-out?

HOW I CAN HELP

Therapy for burnout and stress management can help you make changes to live a more manageable & enjoyable life.

Therapy can help you find relief from burnout. As we work together we will collaborate so that you can identify the main sources of stress in your life and take a realistic look at what can be brought into a better balance.

You will learn where and how to set boundaries and discover ways to prioritize rest and personal fulfillment. We will examine and adjust your expectations of yourself and others. In therapy, we can collaborate to create your own menu of coping skills and stress-reducing activities.

There are many cultural components that can lead to burnout. “Human Giver Syndrome” is a term coined by Amelia and Emily Nagoski in their book about burnout, referring to the ways that societal expectations are placed on women to prioritize others’ needs over their own, leading them to feel obligated to give and serve, even at the cost of their own well-being.
